[EN] Violence against women continues to be a burden that has unfortunately been present in our society for a long time; it is the consequence of a patriarchal socialization process and although progress has been made to move away from this idea, there are still manifestations rooted in the patriarchy. Therefore, gender violence is still a manifestation of inequality between men and women that we have been fighting for years to eradicate, and although legislative instruments have been created and there have been reforms in numerous laws, this has not yet been achieved and there is still a long way to go. The most notable legislative advance was the creation of Organic Law 1/2004 on Measures for the Protection against Gender Violence, which provides comprehensive protection for victims; and with it, the appearance of the Courts for Violence against Women. When an act of gender violence occurs, the victim can request a series of both criminal and civil measures in a protection order. In the case of civil measures, there have been recent reforms, for example on the issue of visiting rights, to avoid what is known as vicarious violence. Normally, when there are cases of violence in the couple, it is common to file for separation or divorce, the procedure of which has specific specialties.
