The ICTs and the interconnectivity that they have brought to society have caused social phenomena to spread across the globe at a rate that can only be described as viral. This further limits the time available to society for their understanding, to ponder them and, if necessary, stop them with measures born of social science studies. This article has the modest objective of helping create the critical mass of studies necessary, through a review of the literature, to allow the formation of a basic understanding of the mechanisms that make the post-truth work, the way they work, the factors that make possible its success and, with all the necessary help, the measures that hypothetically can be taken from civil society, the academic world and political power to prevent groups that have been marginalized from democratic life for their values opposed to coexistence, continue to slip through the cracks of the digital information system to impose their agenda and prejudices to society as a whole. To this end, the necessary fact that the dissemination of false or adulterated information is not really new is outlined. And that ICTs have simply given wings to a phenomenon that had been boarded so far by acting on the media and holding them legally responsible for the information they published. In the context of the net, interact simultaneously people from all nations, creating a legal limbo in which, credibly, the body that detects an infraction has no jurisdiction over the suspect.
