Abstract

[EN] Introduction and objective: we present and analyze the results obtained since 2006 with the implementation of the "Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program in Castilla y Le?n" in our health Area of Le?n (Spain). Material and method: We have followed the program of screening established in our Community and obtained the data from the database ?HIPO?. As significant event, expose the change that took place after the acquisition by the Department of ENT, of the instruments of auditory brainstem response (ABR) and auditory steady state response (ASSR). Results: The number of children subject to screening in these 9 years was 21.173, of which 1.25% were not passed 1st screening; 0.14%, not passed 2nd screening; being diagnosed with hearing loss 20 patients (0. 94?) and rejecting the test a 1.1 ?. Discussion: We consider the importance that screening is carried out by staff fixed and focused on few people to increase their quality. We believe that the effectiveness of the procedure increases, when there are instrumental for the diagnosis of hearing loss. Unilateral sensorineural hearing loss, poorly valued until a few years ago, can have a significant impact. Conclusions: Early diagnosis of these 20 infants and the establishment of the treatment, justify the introduction of newborn hearing screening program. The realization in our ENT Department of audiological diagnostic phase has meant an important step forward in the quality of care provided to our patients.
