[ES]Ab? ?Abd All?h Mu?ammad b.?Abd All?h b. Masarra b.
?Abd All?h Mu?ammad b.?Abd All?h b. Masarra b. Na??? al-Qur?ub? al-?abal? (883-931) was the first sufi Master in al-Andalus, i.e. the first one to set a benchmark for the continuity of the mystical movement in the Iberian Peninsula. No direct sources about him have survived, and the scarce information available has come to us through other authors. In these sources, Ibn Masarra is involved in a huge controversy. He had many detractors, but also followers, both during his life and after his death. His ideas were spread all over al-Andalus, and once dead he was accused of heterodoxy, and his followers suffered persecution by the central power.
