[EN] Shortly before 1930 Gabriela van der Mal, a young Belgian nurse daughter of an eminent surgeon, joins a convent. After completing the probationary period, the postulate and the novitiate, she completes her education as a nurse in the Amberes School of Tropical Medicine. After professing her final vows, and being already Sister Lucas, she is charged to go to the Congo. There, among other activities, she visits a leper colony when the lepromatous leprosy ravages are present.
