Turismo de voluntariado

Abstract

El turismo de voluntariado se trata de un tipo de turismo alternativo al turismo tradicional en el que los turistas llevan a cabo actividades de ayuda a la sociedad o al medio ambiente en su viaje vacacional. Se expone el turismo de voluntariado como una herramienta contra la pobreza y hacia el turismo sostenible. En el caso del turismo de voluntariado cada individuo construye el significado de su experiencia y la satisfacción personal de haber marcado la diferencia. Las actividades pueden ser de muy diversa índole y los turistas voluntarios pagan por participar en estas actividades cantidades más altas que el promedio. La experiencia del turismo de voluntariado son las interacciones entre los turistas y la comunidad local, y al desarrollarse en un ambiente de beneficio mutuo y cooperación, uno es capaz de realizar una transformación y desarrollo de sí mismo. Se presenta una nueva clasificación que distingue las actividades entre voluntariado de eventos, de conservación y de cooperación. Se desarrolla y analiza un estudio del volumen de mercado del turismo de voluntariado. Este tipo de turismo puede generar tanto beneficios como perjuicios, por lo que también se exponen casos concretos en los que el turismo de voluntariado no se ha gestionado correctamente. Como conclusión se comentan ciertas líneas de actuación que se pueden tomar como referencia en un futuro.
