Abstract

El concepto y la palabra “utopía” disfrutan de una larga historia en el marco de la cultura occidental, una historia que en el sentido literario más preciso del término se remontaría a hace cinco siglos, cuando Tomás Moro publica en 1516 su celebérrimo De Optimo Reipublicae Statu deque Nova Insula Utopia Libellus Vere Aureus. Por mucho que el humanista francés Guillaume Budé hubiese preferido designar la isla de su admirado Moro como “Udepotía” o “País del jamás”, el término “Utopía” acabaría imponiéndose, inaugurando un género literario que conocería una enorme aceptación durante los dos siglos siguientes.
