Statistics from the Ministry of Health, Singapore states that lung disease such as pneumonia is ranked the third principal cause of death in Singapore with a percentage of 13.9% in 2008. Being able to automatically classify lung sounds will enable physicians to make timely and more accurate diagnosis without being held back by the subjective hearing capability of the physician.
