Evaluation of indoor positioning system

Abstract

This thesis is about evaluation of indoor positioning systems for mobile robots. Evaluation of indoor positioning system pervades a great challenge to all researchers. In today's world there has been tremendous growth of interest in localization applications which requires precise estimation of user's location in indoor environment. The GPS, a universally accepted localization system are designed specifically for outdoor environment. As a result, the need to cater the requirement for accurate indoor positioning system has increased the thirst for researchers to do work in indoor positioning system. Indoor localization systems are used to track and locate objects in an indoor environment. They are used to track the movement of patients in hospitals, firefighters battling blazes inside burning buildings, mobile robots in research centre and even retail merchandise swiped from store shelves. In this thesis evaluation was performed of existing indoor wireless technologies to track the position of mobile robots.
