A transformer is one of the most important units in power network. For reliable operation of network, diagnosis of developing faults in transformer is very important. This project presents a novel and sensitive frequency response analysis (FRA) technique for identifying the winding faults in power apparatus. This technique is a suitable off-line diagnostic method for identifying electrical and mechanical faults of a transformer. The main objective of this project is to investigate the applicability of this predictive maintenance technique to identify the level of winding faults in power transformer and to characterize the transformer in a frequency plane for safe operation.
