The adverse impact of rain on the earth-satellite communications in the region has not been well characterized due to the lack of measured data. In view of the rapid introduction of new business and personal communications networks, based on satellite constellation operation in Ku-band or higher band with low fade-margins, it is of pressing importance to understand the implication of rain attenuation on quality-of-service of the systems. Based on these considerations, studies have been done to characterize rain rate and rain attenuation at Ku-band in the region.
