Ansiedade pré-competitiva em adolescentes, praticantes do desporto escolar

Abstract

This paper studies the cognitive and somatic anxiety that participants in school competitions experiment. The sample included 658 athletes, from both sexes. Their ages averaged 14,34 (± 1,82). The students practised school sports in a Basic and Secondary School in Bragança, during the school year 2012/2013. Data was collected using a multidimensional questionnaire CSAI-2R (Cox, 2003). The Mann-Whitney non-parametric test for independent samples was used to study the levels of anxiety according to sex and type of sport practised. The correlation between anxiety levels and age, sex and type of sport (individual versus collective) was assessed using the Spearman coefficient (rho). The resulting data suggests that there are significant differences between the anxiety provoked by team and individual sports. Anxiety, both somatic and cognitive, is greater when the athletes perform an individual sport. Data also indicates a negative association, very low, between the level of education and somatic anxiety; a low positive association is found between sex and type of sport; a moderate positive association is found between age, education and somatic and cognitive anxiety.
