Comportamento mecânico de adesivos estruturais

Abstract

The present thesis aims to study the quasi-state mechanical behaviour of wood structural adhesives, including the full characterization (up to rupture) of its behaviour both in traction and shear. With the tests carried out it was intended to ascertain the differences between the bulk and in situ mechanical properties of adhesives. Moreover, it was intended to examine the influence of adhesive thickness on its mechanical properties. Uniaxial tensile tests were performed on thin-film adhesive (ARALDITE® 2015) specimens with different thicknesses, in order to determinate the bulk mechanical properties. The in situ tensile properties were identified by means of tensile tests on adhesive butt-joints. The characterization of the in situ shear behaviour was done with the Arcan test. Shear-lap tests were used to assess how the bulk elastic properties (identified by tensile tests) or the in situ elastic properties (identified by adhesive butt-joint tensile tests and Arcan tests) of ARALDITE®2015 allow to predict its elastic behaviour. This test corresponds to a complex state of stress. All the tests carried out were previously simulated by finite element method in order to validate the identification methods of mechanical properties. Digital image correlation was used in mechanical tests to measure kinematic fields (displacements and deformations). It is an optical technique, with no contact, that is essential for bulk and in situ tests due to the small adhesive thickness. The adherent material chosen for the in situ tests was the Pinus pinaster wood.
