Sintomatologia depressiva em estudantes universitários: prevalência e factores associados

Abstract

Depression is an issue which has been given much attention in recent years due to its incidence, particularly among college students as a group at risk for the development of many disorders. However studies conducted in Portugal remain scarce, not only in terms of prevalence but also in terms of risk factors or variables that may be related to the development of this disorder, considered quite disabling. It thus becomes necessary to know the actual dimension of the problem in this specific population as well as factors related to it, considering the planning of interventions to deal with depressive symptoms or preventive interventions regarding risk situations. This research work intends to respond to this increasingly recognized need, and is divided into two parts. The first part corresponds to a literature review carried out in a reflective and analytical way about this issue. The second part presents the results of an empirical study with 300 students from the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro in several courses and years, aiming to meet and discuss the issue of depressive symptoms especially in terms of prevalence and related factors.
