Abstract

A rotura do ligamento cruzado cranial é uma das lesões ortopédicas mais comuns em cães cuja patogenia complexa e multifatorial não está inteiramente compreendida. A instabilidade articular que dai advém provoca dor e inflamação resultando em alterações patológicas como osteoartrite, lesões no menisco e fibrose cápsula sendo a principal causa de doença articular degenerativa no joelho no cão. A sua gestão pode ser feita através de tratamento médico-conservativo ou através dos inúmeros procedimentos cirúrgicos que atualmente estão descritos para o cão não apenas para a reconstrução e reparação do ligamento cruzado cranial em caso de rotura mas também para o tratamento da instabilidade articular que dai advém. Sobre a escolha da abordagem terapêutica mais adequada a cada caso irão pesar vários fatores, sendo sempre uma decisão controversa.
