Abstract

O insucesso escolar é nos nossos dias um fenómeno social, este deixou de ser encarado como uma característica individual, do ponto de vista do aluno, passando a ser cada vez mais considerado como um fenómeno com implicações socias e económicas. Apesar de ser um problema que acompanha todo o processo de ensino, desde o primeiro ciclo até ao ensino superior, o seu enfoque está nos resultados a nível da escolaridade obrigatória, sendo a avaliação do processo educativo centrada em resultados palpáveis (aquisição de competências e conhecimentos que preparam o indivíduo para o mundo do trabalho) e não tanto na experiência de vida. Contudo, definir insucesso escolar apresenta-se uma tarefa complexa, visto que além deste conceito encerrar uma multiplicidade de entendimentos, o seu estudo apresenta uma enorme polissemia, notória nas tentativas efectuadas pelas diferentes áreas disciplinares para a sua compreensão e definição. Para Fernandes (1991), a definição oficial do insucesso escolar, advém do regime anual de passagem/reprovação dos alunos, inerente à estrutura de avaliação característica do sistema de ensino. Este estudo procura dar a conhecer a realidade portuguesa relativamente àquilo que é o insucesso e abandono escolar, mas essencialmente procura perceber as causas que levam os jovens a afastarem-se do percurso escolar antes de concluída a escolaridade mínima obrigatória, em detrimento do ingresso precoce no mercado de trabalho, bem como possíveis medidas de combate, destacando o papel da disciplina de educação física.

Failure at school today is a social phenomenon, this is no longer seen as na individual characteristic, from the standpoint of the student, becoming increasingly regarded as a phenomenon with social and economic implications. Despite being a problem that follows the entire process of education, from the first cycle to higher education, is its focus on results at the level of compulsory schooling, and the evaluation of the educational process focused on tangible results (skills and knowledge that prepare the individual to the world of work) rather than the experience of life. However, school failure has set up a complex task, since beyond this concept contains a multiplicity of understandings, their study presents a huge polysemy evident in the attempts made by different disciplines for their understanding and definition. For Fernandes (1991), the official definition of school failure, comes from an annual basis in passing/failing students, inherent to the structure characteristic evaluation of the education system. This study aims to advertise the situation in Portugal regarding what is the failure and school abandon, but essentially seeks to understand the causes that lead young people to stay away from school before the course is completed compulsory education, to the detriment of the early entry labor market, as well as possible measures to combat, emphasizing the role of the discipline of physical education.
