Abstract

Dissertação de Mestrado em Medicina Veterinária A Cardiomiopatia Dilatada (CMD) é a miopatia mais comum em cães e caracteriza-se por uma redução da contractilidade miocárdica, com ou sem a presença de arritmias. Observa-se uma dilatação das câmaras cardíacas e uma disfunção ventricular sistólica e diastólica resultando numa insuficiência cardíaca congestiva e possível morte espontânea. A etiologia genética é cientificamente aceite como um dos factores mais relevantes para a existência de CMD, sendo as raças de grande porte o alvo mais comum desta patologia. Apresenta uma taxa de mortalidade muito elevada e o diagnóstico precoce através da electrocardiografia e ecocardiografia tem sido mais valioso e útil do que o tratamento que se limita ao controlo dos sinais clínicos de insuficiência cardíaca com prognóstico fatal num curto espaço de tempo. Neste trabalho é realizada uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a CMD e é descrito um pequeno estudo sobre electrocardiogramas realizados a doze animais no momento em que foi diagnosticada esta patologia, onde são identificadas as principais alterações electrocardiográficas observadas. São também descritos e estudados três casos clínicos de CMD observados no Hospital Veterinário do Baixo Vouga.
