The issue of mentoring has been used for a long time and has been adapted over time, always maintaining the focus on guiding and helping the mentee. It was linked to the practice of tutoring for a long time, however, these practices have different functionalities. Tutoring is a practice where a teacher guides a student and the mentoring takes place only between students, considering that the mentor is assisted by the teachers who are part of the mentoring team. Currently, mentoring serves the purpose of stimulating interpersonal relationships and cooperation between students to improve their academic performance. However, schools are faced with little and vague legislation on the subject and the voluntary nature that participants must assume, as neither time nor frequent training is available for its full development or implementation. In this context, our study aims to analyze the implementation of a mentoring program in a School Group in order to understand the representations that the educational community has about the respective program and whether this educational practice has an impact on the development of students´ learning and their subsequent socialization within the program. For this purpose, in this research, we adopted a qualitative methodology aimed at gaining a comprehensive understanding of the phenomena, which justifies our choice of a case study conducted within a School Group in the northern region of Portugal. As data collection techniques, we relied on documentary analysis, described as an examination of Mentoring Program, Internal Regulations and Educational Project. We also conducted semi-structured interviews with 8 intentionally selected participants. Content analysis allowed for the examination and interpretation of the collected data. It was possible to conclude that there is na effective implementation of this program, which proves to be na added value for the educational stakeholders and fosters a sense of belonging to the school among the involved students, motivating them to improve their academic performance.
