Doença degenerativa da valva mitral: casos clínicos

Abstract

This report was prepared as part of the completion of the Integrated Master's in Veterinary Medicine course and reflects the internship carried out at the Bom Jesus Veterinary Hospital and the Anicura Valencia Sur Veterinary Hospital, corresponding to the period between August 2022 to January 2023 and February to March 2023, respectively. This work aims to describe the practical work developed and highlight the knowledge acquired during the internship, through the description and discussion of clinical cases in small animal cardiology. Therefore, five clinical cases of animals with degenerative mitral valve disease (DDVM) were selected, which is the main acquired heart disease diagnosed in dogs. The first three clinical cases concern animals with stage C DDVM with acute left congestive heart failure, who required hospitalization. Of these, the animal of the second clinical case had chronic bronchitis and the animal of the third clinical case had moderate pulmonary hypertension and atrial fibrillation. The fourth and fifth clinical cases relate to animals with DDVM in stage B2, one of which also had severe pulmonary hypertension. This report also describes all the monitoring and procedures carried out during each clinical case, from the initial assessment of the animals, through the elaboration of differential diagnoses, carrying out complementary diagnostic tests, treatment and follow-up. At the end of the clinical cases, a brief bibliographical discussion is made that places the information described in the bibliography side by side.
