Abstract

Nos dias de hoje os grandes centros urbanos apresentam uma elevada densidade populacional. Para responder às necessidades de toda a população estes centros caraterizam-se como grandes fontes poluidoras. O setor rodovi´ario destaca-se, sendo uma das principais fontes de poluição e levantado grandes problemas relativos à qualidade do ar. A exposição aos efeitos dos poluentes atmosféricos tem grandes consequências na saúde publica, podendo causar doenças respiratórias, cardíacas, cancerígenas ou complicações no normal desenvolvimento das crianças. Foram tomadas diversas medidas legislativas que estabelecem limites para os valores das concentrações dos poluentes mais prejudiciais, por forma a melhorar a qualidade do ar. O avanço tecnológico proporcionou uma maior facilidade na implementação de medidas de controlo da qualidade do ar, possibilitando o desenvolvimento de sistemas de monitorização da qualidade do ar, por forma a alertar a população para que possam ser tomadas medidas para a redução à exposição aos agentes poluentes. Esta dissertação visa o desenvolvimento de uma plataforma de monitorização da qualidade do ar utilizando Java Platform Enterprise Edition. Esta plataforma permite a receção de dados relativos às concentrações dos poluentes no ar, provenientes de estações de monitorização, e o seu consequente processamento e armazenamento. O acesso à plataforma pelos utilizadores é realizado através de um browser, estão disponíveis informações relativas à qualidade do ar atual, bem como a sua evolução ao longo do tempo. E ainda possível observar a contribuição e peso dos poluentes individualmente para o índice da qualidade do ar e a distribuição geográfica das leituras realizadas pelas estações, por forma a identificar os locais mais poluídos. São ainda tidos em consideração aspetos relacionados com a segurança nos diversos componentes da plataforma, tais como JWT e certificados SSL. São também apresentados os resultados da implementação das várias componentes do sistema, assim como da sua interação.

In this day and age, urban centers, present a high population density. In order to fulfill all the needs of the population the urban centers are characterized as major pollution sources. The automotive sector has been set to be the main pollution source, leading to major problems regarding to “the quality of the air”. Exposure to this kind of atmosphere has sever consequences in general health, such as respiratory and heart disease, cancer or even complications in the normal development of children. As a result, and also an attempt to tackle this issue, legislative measures were taken, in order to set a limit on the concentrations of the most harmful pollutants. Throughout the years and with the help of technological progress, systems to monitor the quality of the air were developed, which contributed not only, for the population to be ware of the problem it self, but also made possible that a couse of action regarding the reduction of polluting agents exposure was taken. The purpose of this dissertation is to develop a platform capable of monitoring the quality of the air, using Java Platform Enterprise Edition. This platform, allows the reception of data from stations, related to changes in air pollutants and their subsequent processing and storage. Users, can access it by browser and instantly information on current quality of the air is available, as well as its evolution over time. It is also possible to outline the contribution that the individual pollutants have in the atmosphere, and the geographical distribution of readings taken by the stations in order to identify the most polluted places. Security related aspects are also taken into consideration in the various components of the platform. Are also taken into account aspects related with the security in the various components of the platform, such as JWT and SSL certificates. Are also shown the results of the implementation of the different elements, as well as their interaction.
