El impacto del estado funcional del anciano en la salud de sus cuidadores

Abstract

Antecedentes. El envejecimiento de la población lleva a una necesidad creciente de cuidadores, hay estudios acerca de la repercusión en la carga y salud de los cuidadores. Objetivo. Diagnóstico sociosanitario de los ancianos y sus cuidadores. Método. Estudio de prevalencia con cuestionarios. Medidas: sociodemográficas, estado de salud y carga del cuidador, analizadas con las herramientas establecidas. Resultados. Entrevistamos a 656 ancianos en su hogar (60.7% mujeres); 80 años es la media de edad. Son independientes para las actividades de la vida diaria, pero el 29.6% tienen patología psiquiátrica, y el 12,2% deterioro cognitivo severo. Estudiamos a 104 cuidadores (84,5% mujeres), el 76,7% no tiene sobrecarga, pero el 62,5% tiene trastorno psicológico. Conclusión. En un ámbito con elevada tasa de envejecimiento no hay correlación entre el estado funcional del anciano y la salud de sus cuidadores. La sobrecarga de éstos no se correlaciona con su salud psíquica.
