Abstract

Hasta hace poco tiempo Stramonita haemastoma (Linnaeus, 1766), sólo era conocida en las costas gallegas a través del hallazgo de conchas vacías recolectadas tanto en la costa, como en los restos malacológicos o “concheiros” de los castros ubicados en las inmediaciones del litoral. En los años 1987 y 1988 se recolectaron cuatro ejemplares vivos que llegaron a las playas gallegas sobre boyas recubiertas por Lepas anatifera Linnaeus, 1758, pero no se tenía noticia de su asentamiento en ningún punto de las costas de Galicia. El hallazgo de un gran número de ejemplares vivos de S. haemastoma en dos localidades de la costa de Lugo, acompañados en una de ellas por un gran número de puestas, indica que esta especie se encuentra bien asentada en la zona, y teniendo en cuenta su capacidad de adaptación, y su papel como depredador de moluscos bivalvos, cuyo cultivo tiene una gran importancia para la economía gallega, se considera necesario realizar un seguimiento de sus poblaciones.
