Caracterización de la exposición al humo ambiental de tabaco a través de cuestionarios

Abstract

La exposición al humo ambiental de tabaco (HAT) se asocia con un mayor riesgo de desarrollar cáncer de pulmón y cardiopatía isquémica en la población adulta. Además, se ha relacionado con múltiples efectos adversos en la infancia, como el parto prematuro y el síndrome de muerte súbita del lactante. Dado el impacto del HAT en la salud poblacional, resulta fundamental disponer de estimaciones de la proporción de población expuesta a este carcinógeno, identificar los lugares donde se produce la exposición y determinar su intensidad y duración. La mayoría de los estudios epidemiológicos que valoran la prevalencia de exposición al HAT emplean métodos indirectos basados en cuestionarios, los cuales permiten obtener información detallada con un coste razonable. No obstante, las preguntas incluidas en los cuestionarios varían entre encuestas o estudios e incluso dentro de una misma encuesta a lo largo del tiempo.
