Abstract

El término suicidio, se define etimológicamente como el acto del individuo encaminado a la autodestrucción intencional. Actualmente, el acto suicida es el responsable de casi un millón de muertes al año a nivel mundial, encontrándose entre las 3 primeras causas de muerte entre las personas de entre 15 y 44 años, y la segunda entre personas de 15 a 29 años, así como de casi un 50 % del total de muertes violentas. A nivel estatal, el suicidio constituyó en España en el año 2019 la primera causa de muerte violenta, con un total de 3.671 fallecimientos, y siendo tres veces superior a la cifra anual de muertes en accidentes de tráfico según el Instituto Nacional de Toxicología y Ciencias Forenses (INTCF). Galicia fue este mismo año la cuarta comunidad autónoma en relación con el porcentaje de suicidios en España, abarcando un 6,9 % de estos.
