Abstract

Quevedo escribió un elevado número de silvas, la mayoría de las cuales forman parte de secuencias de inspiración clásica y patrística auspiciadas por la libre lectura de Anacreón, Jeremías, Epicteto, Focílides y Petrarca, a quienes tradujo o parafraseó de modo muy personal. También tuvo ocasión de elaborar un pequeño corpus de silvas satíricas y burlescas, con alguna influencia de Marcial. No son desconocidas esas contribuciones suyas, trátese de poemas sueltos, de un cancionero religioso o de una sostenida glosa, pero apenas se ha destacado lo que supone todo ese acervo en la historia de la silva española. Los especialistas han dirigido su atención a lo que parece más visible, y tal vez lo más apreciado desde la sensibilidad actual: el libro de silvas a imitación de Estacio que se publicó en la musa Calíope de Las tres musas últimas castellanas en el año 1670. El objetivo del presente libro es la edición crítica y anotada de esa colección, tarea no emprendida hasta ahora. Tras una introducción crítico-literaria (capítulo I), damos noticia de todas las fuentes manuscritas e impresas que se conocen en la actualidad, procediendo a su filiación y al estudio crítico de cada una de los 28 poemas que componen este libro estaciano (capítulos II y III). Sigue luego (capítulo IV) el texto crítico con sus notas explicativas a pie de página. A los poemas así anotados se añade un apartado donde se mencionan y comentan la bibliografía que ha recibido cada uno de los poemas, cuantiosa en unos casos e inexistente en otros.
