Abstract

La compresión maxilar esquelética representa un desafío clínico significativo, no solo afectando a la armonía facial y al equilibrio oclusal, sino estando potencialmente relacionada con trastornos como la apnea/hipoapnea y la pérdida de la audición. Este estudio pretende investigar sobre el uso del expansor maxilar palatino asistido con micro-tornillos (MARPE) en el tratamiento de esta patología. Objetivos: estudiar el desarrollo y crecimiento del maxilar y la sutura palatina media; indagar sobre la posible etiología de la compresión maxilar esquelética; evaluar sus repercusiones y valorar su tratamiento con MARPE, haciendo especial hincapié en los distintos diseños, biomecánica, aplicaciones y cambios a nivel dento alveolar y morfológico-esqueléticos. Métodos: se realiza una revisión bibliográfica exhaustiva sobre el tratamiento de esta condición mediante buscadores científicos especializados. Resultados: se destaca consistentemente la eficacia del MARPE en la corrección de la compresión maxilar esquelética, con resultados clínicos favorables y mínimos efectos secundarios. Conclusiones: MARPE es un tratamiento eficaz y predecible para el tratamiento de la compresión maxilar esquelética, produciendo menos efectos secundarios en comparación a otros tratamientos
