Abstract

La Alexiada ha sido frecuentemente interpretada de manera sesgada, ya sea imponiéndole a su autora unos criterios más severos que a otros autores bizantinos por su excepcionalidad o leyendo toda su obra en base a detalles sobre su vida privada. Si bien es natural tener en cuenta los motivos de un autor/a para escribir su obra, en el caso de Anna Komnenos se han utilizado fuentes aisladas igual de subjetivas que ella, a menudo ignorando el resto de su vida personal más allá de sus primeros veinticinco años, negándole cualquier tipo de actividad intelectual o política. Este trabajo expondrá la teoría de que la Alexiada, lejos de ser el ataque injusto y rencoroso hacia su hermano recién fallecido que se ha asumido siempre, es en realidad una obra profundamente política, dirigida a criticar los cambios en la política interna y externa del imperio bizantino durante el reinado de Manuel Komnenos. Esta crítica sería, además, parte de un importante y a menudo desapercibido movimiento intelectual de carácter clasicista que reflejaba muchas de las inquietudes y corrientes de pensamiento de los siglos XI y XII en el imperio bizantino post-macedónico.
