Abstract

A presente Unidade Didáctica (en diante UD) encádrase dentro do Bloque Temático I da materia (Procesos Litorais), onde se caracterizan os distintos procesos que determinan o deseño das distintas actuacións no litoral (Bloque II). Para iso, é preciso coñecer o clima marítimo ao que estarán sometidas. Unha vez definidas as condicións da ondada (UD 2 e 3) resulta imprescindible ademais coñecer as variacións do nivel do mar. O nivel do mar é unha variable de importancia capital na zona litoral. As súas variacións a curto prazo (horas ou días) repercuten sobre todos os procesos litorais, desprazando vertical e horizontalmente a zona da costa que recibe a enerxía da ondada, e polo tanto constituíndo un elemento esencial en calquera proxecto no ámbito da Enxeñaría de Portos e Costas. Estas oscilacións a curto prazo débense fundamentalmente, e salvo casos excepcionais, á marea astronómica. Aínda que as forzas causativas quedan explicadas pola Teoría de Equilibrio desenvolta por Newton, é preciso expoñer tamén a Teoría Dinámica de Laplace e o concepto de Onda de Marea, co obxecto de que os alumnos comprendan certos aspectos relevantes como a influencia da xeometría e profundidade dos océanos, mares e estuarios. Do mesmo xeito, explícanse outros conceptos básicos á hora de predicir a marea como é a análise harmónica. Finalmente, introducirase ao alumno a outro tipos de variacións no nivel do mar a curto prazo, como son as debidas á marea meteorolóxica, así como de longo prazo e que, en ocasións, poden chegar a ter unha incidencia importante sobre as distintas actuacións que o enxeñeiro civil realiza na zona litoral.
