Abstract

La caquexia es un trastorno metabólico multifactorial caracterizado por la pérdida involuntaria de peso, principalmente a expensas de tejido muscular y adiposo, que afecta a de forma global más de la mitad de los pacientes con cáncer. La inflamación a nivel sistémico, la liberación de sustancias por parte del tumor y otros factores neuroendocrinos contribuyen a la creación de un estado metabólico caracterizado por un elevado gasto energético, donde predominan procesos catabólicos como proteólisis y lipólisis con un claro reflejo clínico. En la actualidad no se dispone de biomarcadores que permitan un diagnóstico precoz ni de tratamientos efectivos, especialmente en fases avanzadas de la enfermedad, por lo que resulta esencial desvelar los eventos biológicos que subyacen a la caquexia asociada a cáncer. En este trabajo trataremos de abordar la identificación de biomarcadores y dianas moleculares desde la perspectiva teórica partiendo de la fisiopatología y los estudios actuales
