De monstruosis gentibus. Los pueblos monstruosos en la tradición textual y visual en la Edad Media (siglos XI-XV)

Abstract

La presente tesis doctoral tiene como foco principal el estudio de la tradición textual y visual de los pueblos monstruosos entre los siglos XI y XV, con el fin, por un lado, de comprender la transmisión de este motivo en las fuentes textuales y, por otro, de analizar la configuración de las iconografías en la miniatura medieval. El trabajo se encuentra estructurado en tres grandes bloques, correspondiéndose con los objetivos principales planteados a la hora de abordar este estudio: la localización de fuentes textuales sobre los pueblos monstruosos y su posterior análisis, la identificación de miniaturas dedicadas a estos seres y el estudio de estas, y, por último, comprender las relaciones que se producen entre texto e imagen para observar si los conceptos y datos que aportan los textos, sobre todo los relacionados con la idea de monstruosidad, se ven reflejados en las imágenes.
