Bilingüismo, multilingüismo, reserva cognitiva y enfermedad de Alzheimer

Abstract

[EN] Objective: Present a complet view literatura of scientific articles which analyse the relationshit between bilingualism or multilingualism, the cognitive reserve (CR) in Alzheimer´s disease (AD) patients. Method: A searching is performed in specialized databases PsycINFO, MEDLINE/PubMed and CSIC, with the following terms: Alzheimer´s Disease, Cognitive Reserve, Bilingualism, Multilingualism. The filter of the articles is made keeping in mind the following inclusion citeria: a) articles, b) English or Spanish, c) specific analysis of the relationship between bilingualism, CR and AD, d) older adults participants diagnosed with AD confirmed or probable. Results: A total of 35 articles were identified and 9 of them were selected after the inclusion/exclusion cirteria were assessed. Additionally, 2 articles were selected after handsearching. Thus, a total of 11 articles were selected for the present review. Conclusions: Currently, the evidence of relationship between bilingualism, CR and the retar on the onset of AD is inconsistent and with limitations. Bigger samples and randomized are needed, objective measures to asses bilingualism, incorporate experimental tasks and control confound variables
