La calidad estructural de la madera aserrada de castaño en función de las características de las trozas

Abstract

Se apearon seis ejemplares de castaño bravo (Castanea sativa) en cuatro zonas de la provincia de Lugo (Galicia, España). Las trozas obtenidas se midieron y aserraron para obtener tablones, que fueron secados y cepillados para obtener viguetas de dimensiones nominales 5x10x200 o 5x15x300 cm. En cada vigueta se registraron sus principales defectos externos, para asignar la pieza a una clase de calidad visual. También se aserraron tablas de espesor inferior a 5 cm, de las que se obtuvieron probetas de 2x2x4 cm sin defectos. Con éstas se determinó la densidad media y característica. En función de su densidad, la madera analizada no podría asignarse ni a la clase resistente D30, la inferior para frondosas en el sistema europeo. El rendimiento de aserrado en viguetas aptas para estructuras fue del 24 %. Se constató la influencia del diámetro y la conicidad de la troza en el rendimiento de aserrado en volumen de viguetas, tanto en conjunto como distinguiendo por calidades visuales. Con una futura muestra más amplia podría elaborarse un modelo predictor del volumen de piezas aserradas de cada calidad en función de variables de obtención sencilla sobre las trozas, para orientar el uso de la madera y su despiece.
