Problemas de contorno para ecuaciones en diferencias y ecuaciones diferenciales funcionales

Abstract

Habitualmente se considera que los procesos reales que se producen a lo largo del tiempo, en un determinado espacio f sico, son continuos: se desarrollan como un ujo ininterrumpido desde que comienzan hasta que nalizan. Sin embargo, cuando queremos conocer la evoluci on de un determinado sistema a trav es del tiempo, no siempre estamos interesados en obtener la descripci on del mismo en todo momento. A menudo solo nos interesa conocer el estado del sistema en determinados instantes, separados por intervalos de tiempo, sin importarnos lo que ocurre durante esos intervalos. A este tipo de procesos, de los que analizaremos su estado solo en momentos concretos, los denominaremos procesos discretos. Adquieren especial relevancia en el estudio de la evoluci on |o din amica| de poblaciones, en el area de la econom a y en el de las ciencias sociales, entre otras. La herramienta matem atica adecuada para construir modelos que representen procesos discretos son las ecuaciones en diferencias. Por otra parte, las ecuaciones diferenciales con argumentos constantes a trozos (EPCA), a cuyo estudio se dedica el Cap tulo 4, aparecen a principios de los a~nos ochenta en un intento de extender la teor a de las ecuaciones diferenciales funcionales con argumentos continuos a ecuaciones diferenciales con argumentos discontinuos.
