Abstract

This article focuses its research on the socio-ecological dynamics of the municipal lands of Baunei, a village in Sardinia region (Italy) by using an holistic perspective. It analyses the transformation caused by modernity in the municipal management strategies and institutions and it evaluates how modernity affects the traditional forms of labour and relation with the territory. Hence, the aim of the research is to assess the status of usi civici: a particular structure of the collective “right of use” of the resources related to traditional pastoralism. In the specific, the aim is to analyse the two main local strategies of municipal management, as a communal form of defence in front of a raising privatization and introduction of styles management that disintegrate collective control over the territory. Namely, vidazzone as the complementary rotation between pasture and farm among several households, and emeddare, as the practice of herd exchange and collective pasture between people.
