To study the effects of Xiaochaihu Decoction (XCHD) on uropathogenic E. coli (UEC).In vitro bacterial inhibition test and in vitro adhesion of UEC to human uro-epithelial cell assay were used to investigate the anti-infectionary effects of XCHD.Proliferation inhibitory effect of E. Coli treated with XCHD, and a significant reduction in number of UEC to human uro-epithelial cells was observed in the XCHD treated group at a non-inhibitory concentration of the medication in comparison with the control groups. It is possible that XCHD could act against urinary infection.
