Abstract

La raza de gallina Murciana fue constituida por el ingeniero director de la Estación Pecuaria Central, profesor D. Zacarías Salazar y Mouliá, recorriendo los parajes de la vega murciana, donde los campesinos criaban los mejores tipos de gallinas, y recogiendo los ejemplares mejor desarrollados y de buena conformación. Este primer material se trasladó a la Estación Pecuaria donde, por selección, se terminó de definir la raza. Desgraciadamente, debido a diversas circunstancias pero muy especialmente a la conocida transformación de la avicultura industrial y a la invasión de híbridos extranjeros, posteriormente se dio por desaparecida esta raza. Sin embargo, en los últimos años se ha podido recuperar al encontrar material más o menos similar al original y con una intensa y detallada selección. En la actualidad la situación es más favorable y existe un grupo de avicultores preocupados por su mantenimiento y en la mejora de la raza. A pesar de este interés creciente por la raza, sigue estando catalogada en peligro de extinción (Orden APA/3628/2007). En este sentido, se plantea iniciar el programa de Mejora Genética de la raza, que contemple tanto la mejora como la conservación de la misma. Para ello, el primer paso es constituir una Asociación de Ganadores que se responsabilice de su conservación, llevando a cabo la identificación de los animales, evaluación de los mismos según características morfológicas, asignación de parentesco y registro en el Libro Genealógico de la raza.
