Abstract

El crecimiento de las ciudades en torno a ejes de comunicación, como autopistas o líneas férreas, es una fuente de problemas para su desarrollo armónico y coherente. Cartagena y el trazado de su ferrocarril es un claro ejemplo de cómo la difícil relación entre los núcleos de población y las vías de comunicación puede crear desequilibrios, impidiendo que el desarrollo de la ciudad se produzca de una forma homogénea. El árbol ferroviario situado al Este de Cartagena provoca un efecto de estrangulamiento y supone una barrera que impide el un crecimiento hacia esa zona y el desarrollo de una trama urbana equilibrada. Ante esta situación y teniendo en cuenta las previsiones de crecimiento del Municipio hacia el este de la ciudad que se recogen en la Modificación puntual 114 del Plan General Municipal de Ordenación en la zona de “El Hondón” es necesario llevar a cabo la remodelación de la Red Arterial Ferroviaria, procediendo al soterramiento de los accesos a la Estación. Además, esa remodelación se debe realizar incorporando a Cartagena en la red de altas prestaciones, según las previsiones del Plan Estratégico de Infraestructuras y Transportes 2005-2020.
