Abstract

La métrica de la latencia entre dos nodos en una red indica el retardo de los paquetes IP entre dichos nodos y es un indicador del correcto funcionamiento de una red. Se suele usar la métrica RTT (Round Trip Time) como el tiempo de ida y de vuelta de un paquete IP. La latencia entre dos nodos depende del estado de la red, la ruta del paquete IP y el número de saltos intermedios o routers, por donde pasa el paquete IP hasta el destino. Para medir la latencia entre dos nodos se puede emplear tráfico controlado icmp, UDP o TCP. Hoy en día la latencia es un factor crucial que afecta la calidad de la conexión y la experiencia de usuario. Las empresas prefieren una latencia baja y una comunicación de red más rápida para lograr una mayor productividad y operaciones comerciales más eficientes. Se utilizan diferentes métodos para visualizar las latencias, como histogramas, series temporales, funciones de densidad de probabilidad (PDF), función de distribución acumulativa (CDF) y funciones de distribución acumulativa complementaria (CCDF). El objetivo principal del proyecto es el diseño y desarrollo de un sistema software para realizar mediciones automatizadas de latencia de redes utilizando diferentes herramientas y protocolos, para su posterior análisis y visualización del comportamiento bajo diferentes condiciones. Para la realización de las pruebas se han usado direcciones IP públicas de un repositorio de nodos anchor de RIPE Atlas.
