Gemelos digitales urbanos

Abstract

[ENG] The rise of the population in cities foreseen in the next years leads to the need to be prepared for this massive influx of population. This means that cities must have expansion plans, efficient infrastructure and sufficient services. In addition, the different urban agendas force the need to carry these out around sustainability, accessibility and quality of life. Advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, IoT or Big Data, have had great development in recent years. Digital twins use sensors and real-time data from a physical object, this data is passed to a digital representation of the object. Thanks to the aforementioned technologies, the virtual twin can learn how the physical object works and anticipate future scenarios and problems that may arise, giving a solution before they occur. Architecture is in a transitional period and is beginning to adopt these new technologies, this work presents digital twins and the possible application in urban planning. Digital twins can help optimize urban development and achieve it following urban agendas. Using climate data, such as the rise in sea level or the movement of tectonic plates, the digital twin can assess the risk and simulate situations to be more prepared for natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, cyclones, etc. Other benefits are found in the saving and optimization of energy consumption, improvement in the infrastructure network, virtual tourism, among others. The adoption of this technology in urban planning will change the way cities are planned, managed and maintained.
