Imunidade Inata e inflamação

Abstract

A imunidade inata consiste na acção concertada de variados tipos celulares, receptores, sistemas de sinalização e mecanismos efetores. Primeiro as barreiras epiteliais têm um papel fundamental na protecção do organismo contra a invasão de agentes patogénicos externos. Por sua vez, o reconhecimento directo de diferentes agentes agressores (sejam eles bacterianos, víricos ou outros) induz a imunidade inata que constitui a primeira linha de defesa do organismo. Dentro dos vários mecanismos estudados, o sistema do complemento e a fagocitose constituem dois dos meios de defesa mais importantes, humorais e celulares, respectivamente. Porém a imunidade inata tem também um papel fundamental no encetar e no controle da imunidade adaptativa. A inflamação, que tratamos com algum detalhe, é um bom exemplo da passagem de uma imunidade inata para o estabelecimento de uma resposta imunológica adaptativa. A imunidade adaptativa ocupará a maior parte do conteúdo deste livro.
