Prevalência da brucelose no concelho de Montalegre

Abstract

A Brucelose é uma doença animal, que facilmente pode contagiar o Homem provocando graves danos na sua saúde. É provocada por uma bactéria do género Brucella podendo esta ser de várias espécies, de entre as quais, apenas quatro podem causar doença no Homem: Brucella melitensis, Brucella abortus, Brucella suis e Brucella canis. Todas estas infecções resultam do contacto directo ou indirecto com animais infectados, uma vez que os hospedeiros da bactéria são o gado bovino, caprino, suíno e até os cães. Trata-se de uma doença sistémica. A apresentação e duração do quadro clínico permite caracterizá-la em forma aguda, sub-aguda e crónica. Laboratorialmente, o teste de sero-aglutinação de Wright assume-se como o meio de diagnostico serológico mais precoce na forma aguda, sendo o método de ELISA o teste escolhido para a Brucelose crónica e seguimento da doença activa. Outros métodos poderão ser utilizados, como a cultura bacteriológica da Brucella em meios apropriados. Várias alternativas terapêuticas são propostas, no entanto, a associação doxiciclina e estreptomicina permanece como a mais eficaz e com menor taxa de recidiva. A sua distribuição geográfica coincide com a endemia animal, como é o caso do concelho de Montalegre, onde ocorreram nos últimos anos vários casos de Brucelose, tanto humana, como animal. Contudo, a incidência tem vindo a diminuir com o decorrer dos anos.
