O papel do microbioma humano na saúde e na doença

Abstract

O termo microbioma foi pela primeira vez introduzido, no ano 2000, pelo Biólogo Joshua Lederberg para definir a comunidade ambiental e biológica de microrganismos comensais, simbióticos e patogénicos que partilham o corpo humano. A composição do microbioma humano tem sido desvendada ao ritmo a que despontam métodos de investigação progressivamente mais elaborados e capazes. Estes métodos têm comprovado e realçado a sua influência no estado de saúde ou disbiose no Homem. Esta dissertação aborda, através de uma revisão bibliográfica atual, o papel do microbioma na saúde humana e a sua responsabilidade no desenvolvimento de patologias locais e sistémicas, tais como, acne, vaginose bacteriana, doenças orais e intestinais e distúrbios metabólicos e neurológicos. Adicionalmente, são abordadas potenciais estratégias terapêuticas assentes na recuperação do microbioma saudável, nomeadamente, a utilização de probióticos, prebióticos e o transplante fecal.
