Estomatite protética: revisão narrativa

Abstract

Com o aumento de idosos em todo mundo, cresceu também o número de indivíduos edêntulos, com necessidade de reabilitação oral. Contudo, o uso de próteses pode causar inúmeras lesões na cavidade oral, como é o caso da Estomatite Protética, que é um processo inflamatório/infeccioso que acontece nas mucosas de suporte das próteses e é de etiologia multifactorial. Está intimamente relacionada com a presença da Candida Albicans, sendo a estomatite protética considerada a forma mais comum de candidíase oral. Esta revisão narrativa tem como objetivo principal comparar alguns dos tratamentos e medidas de prevenção descritos pela literatura para a estomatite protética. Os tratamentos devem ser dirigidos aos factores etiológicos de forma individual mas o respeito pelos princípios biomecânicos das próteses e as condições adequadas de higiene oral são condições mandatórias para o sucesso terapêutico. O uso de antifúngicos pode estar indicado mas a sua utilização deve ser adequada a cada paciente.
