Biomateriais em oftalmologia

Abstract

Oftalmologia é o ramo da medicina que lida com doenças do olho, o órgão da visão e seus anexos. Os biomateriais podem ser feitos com diferentes tipos de materiais e têm a função de substituir ou melhorar uma função ou um órgão. No caso dos biomateriais oftálmicos, é o olho. Eles correspondem a qualquer material que possa entrar em contato com sistemas biológicos e continuaram a melhorar ao longo dos anos e a criação de novos biomateriais. Com a chegada das novas gerações, eles conseguiram reduzir as complicações, reduzindo os problemas de toxicidade e melhorando as biocompatibilidades associadas às gerações mais velhas. Com o envelhecimento da população, os problemas oculares estão se tornando mais prevalentes, os biomateriais têm ajudado nos últimos anos a melhorar ou restaurar a visão, melhorando a qualidade de vida de muitos pacientes. Esta dissertação pretende rever alguns dos biomateriais oftalmológicos mais comuns: as lentes de contato, lentes intraoculares, lágrimas artificiais, inlays, substituições vítreas e a cirurgia mini-invasiva no glaucoma, também chamados MIGS.
