Abstract

This paper introduces a set of principles concerning the main characteristics of Maturity Models. We present the background and the state of art of these models for the Management of Information Systems (IS). This work also introduces a set of Portuguese studies discussing the maturity stages for the management of IS. Based on these studies, we conclude that the related organisations present the first maturity stage after the transition from the technological to the socio-organisational orientation.
