Motivos de extracção em odontopediatria

Abstract

The surgical procedures performed in Pediatric Dentistry patients should follow the same principles of surgeries performed in adults. Nonetheless, one should take into consideration that this kind of patients requires a special attention. These are patients that arrive to the appointments with signs of fear, anxiety, stress and, as dentists, we must find the best procedures to deal with them, applying techniques of behavioral controls. As for the surgical procedures required, we must find out the most appropriate techniques in the practice of Pediatric Dentistry, avoiding the risks associated with lesions in the germ of the definitive teeth. In the performance of these techniques, there are always associated complications as the occurrence of root fractures, avulsion of deciduous teeth, mobility or avulsion of permanent teeth, hematomas and bleeding. In this context, we will discuss the most probable reasons of extractions in children and adolescents, such as caries, serial extractions, ectopic irruptions, prolonged retentions, periodontal disease, ankylosis, supernumerary teeth and odontomas, as the leading causes of dental surgical practice in Pediatric Dentistry.
