Varicela: vacinação e epidemiologia

Abstract

Chickenpox is a contagious viral disease that affects mainly children but can also affect adults. Caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the disease starts at the respiratory tract and spreads through the body, reaching the skin. Like other herpesvirus VZV is capable of latency in nerve ganglia and can reactivate causing a condition known as zoster. The infection may be prevented by vaccination, however, the vaccine does not provide complete VZV immunity, but they can help prevent more serious consequences associated with the development of the disease.
