Abstract

A tongue-tie is the result of an oral congenital anomaly and it’s reduction may present in several degrees. The general aim of this monography is to describe the tongue-tie, it’s diagnose, clinical meaning and implications to the dental practice and the life of the patient as well as the ideal treatment plan. The specific aim is to assess the tongue’s mobility of the 6th year dentistry students in FCS-UFP, using a coding system by José Durán von Arx. The study group is composed of 80 6th year dentistry student from UFP, with age range between 22 and 35 years, 37 (45%) were male and 43 (55%) where female. The results were analyzed with Statistic Package for Social Sciences (SPSS©) vs.l5.0 for Windows®. The results show that the gender does not influence in the tongue’s mobility and that the tongue-tie prevalence is very low.
