Os benefícios do leite materno

Abstract

Os benefícios do leite materno podem ter impacto populacional. Este trabalho sumaria os benefícios cientificamente comprovados. O aleitamento materno promove cognição e maior ligação mãe-filho; associa-se a menos casos de diabetes mellitus tipo 2, melhor perfil lipídico e diminuição da pressão arterial; protege de infecções, certas neoplasias, doença celíaca e doenças auto-imunes; causa menos casos de morte súbita infantil, enurese e síndrome de privação; tem benefícios maternos e economico-ambientais. Assim, os profissionais de saúde devem incentivar o aleitamento materno. Breast milk benefits can have great impact in the population. This work summarizes the scientifically proved benefits of breast milk. Breastfeeding promotes cognition and the motherson connection; seems to be associated with fewer cases of type 2 diabetes, better lipid profile and lower blood pressure; protect from infections, certain neoplasic diseases, celiac disease and auto-immune diseases; causes fewer cases of infant sudden death syndrome, enuresis and privation syndrome; has maternal and socioeconomic benefits. Thus, health professional should encourage breastfeeding.
