Abstract

Shift turnover is a complex reality for many nursing professionals, often resulting in significant sleep disturbances. This study explores the impacts of these disorders on the health and well-being of these essential workers, highlighting the urgent need for effective sleep management strategies to improve quality of life in nursing professionals. To map the available evidence to identify the impact of shift work on sleep quality in nursing professionals. Scoping Review (comprehensive review) of the literature, using the databases: MEDLINE (via PubMed), CINHAL (via EBSCO) and SciELO. Included 9 articles. Shift work, especially night shifts, is intrinsically linked to a series of sleep disorders among nursing professionals due to the disruption of the natural circadian rhythm, leading to significant difficulties in maintaining good sleep quality. Frequent shift rotation and prolonged shift durations are key factors that exacerbate sleep disorders. Nurses who frequently alternate between day and night shifts have greater difficulty maintaining good sleep quality. The results suggest that nurses working shifts have a high prevalence of sleep disorders, with negative consequences for health and job performance.
